Hello again!

I can’t believe that this is my last blog post for my ukulele learning journey! I think that I am making good progress within my learning goal of playing the song “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz.

I have made some good improvements regarding my transitions from the C chord to the G chord. Last week, I noted that my transitions were still a bit shaky and slow. Now, I feel more confident in this aspect.

This week, I continued to focus my practice on strumming and singing the lyrics at the same time. To work on this aspect, I found different videos on YouTube and played along with those recordings. The two clips that I found most helpful were “I’m Yours Playalong” by titirangiprimary and “I’m Yours Ukulele Playalong Tutorial Lesson” by Uke4U2. I also printed out lyrics for the song along with the chord progressions so that I can look at them while playing.

However, I am still have difficulty creating the original strumming pattern of ‘duDuduDu.’ I have found another similar pattern – ‘duDduD’ – which is I think works a bit better when I am playing. I am still debating whether or not to play the original strumming pattern for my midterm video. It goes along with the song, but the new one that I have found and tried out sounds and feels more authentic. I’ll see how it goes!

Based on my experience with my previous song for the first midterm – “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” – I think that my song for the second midterm is definitely a large jump up in terms of difficulty (eg song length, lyrics, strumming). I am feeling fairly nervous in how my performance is going to go, but I am looking forward to trying my best. It has definitely been a fun experience re-learning ukulele and I have definitely enjoyed working on this inquiry project this semester!
